For those that don't know, for Sara's 4th birthday, we took the entire family to Disney World!! We loaded up the car and road-tripped it out there (is there any other way to travel with this family?) We did make a weekend stop in Destin (my personal favorite beach in the USA) and I will post some of those pictures afterwards.
For the disney part, a bit of a summary:
When: Sunday, Sept. 11 - Saturday, Sept 17 - this is one of the BEST times to visit as the lines are almost non-existent. For most rides, we were able to walk right on and only a handful did we have to wait ~ 5 minutes or so. It was awesome! Also, the amount of time we stayed was right on for our family. We were able to visit three parks (Magic Kingdom for two days, Epcot for one, and Animal Kingdom for one), take lots of naps (which the girls needed) and have one day off to rest.
Where: Ft. Wilderness Cabins - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! We opted for a cabin because we brought along Granny and Pa-paw. We figured with the two girls, we could use all the help we could. The cabins were so nice. It had a living room and full kitchen (with dishes), and a back bedroom with a full-sized bed and a bunk-bed. In the living room there was also a murphy bed (where Chad and I slept). The girls LOVED the bunked beds. We also rented a golf-cart to get around the resort/campground. It was really nice. And, I'd recommend it to anyone traveling with a larger group.
OK.....onto Day One.
We arrived just as Granny and Pa-paw were checking us in. We got the keys to our cabin, hopped on our golf-cart and headed over to the docking area. What is so great about Ft. Wilderness is that they have these awesome ferries that take you to several locations: Magic Kingdom, Contemporary Resort (which links to the monorails), and Wilderness Lodge, which is where we were going tonight for dinner. We opted for the Dining plan. It included one sit down dinner, one counter-service lunch and one snack per person per night. With this plan, we were able to eat like Kings and Queens! Our reservation tonight was at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. I had read lots of great things about this place, and it lived up to its reputation.
The girls were soo excited about finally being at Disney World!! I honestly think if we had just spent the night at Ft. Wilderness + had dinner at the Whispering Canyon Cafe, they would've been satisfied. They had no idea this was just the tip of the ice-berg.
The boat is coming!!
With a little Disney magic (which we were blessed to have received so much of it this trip!), we arrived just in time to see the Disney Geyser erupt!!
The restaurant was a ton of fun for the girls. They are known for two things. The first - their yummy, never-ending milkshakes. The girls LOVED these!! (seriously, it was like they had died and gone to heaven!)
And, the place is know for their silly shenanigans. The server really took to Sara and kept trying to play his jokes on her. First, he acted like he was going to spill his drinks all over her. And, when she asked for a clean fork, this is what she got...
She was NOT impressed. But, after she saw that everyone was getting "picked on", she decided to loosen up and have some fun. At the restaurant, whenever someone asks for ketchup, everyone has to grab their bottle from their table and run it over to the person asking. Sara saw this happen a few times and went for it. She thought it was so funny!
We also stood up to sing songs and ended the evening with a wooden horse race around the restaurant (which for some reason, I didn't take pictures of). That was Georgia Ann's favorite part.
After a good meal, the girls were ready to crash - and good thing because tomorrow would be our first day at one of the parks!!!
